Mangalore, Mar 2: President of Mulky town panchayat, Shashikant Shetty, said that a special meeting with the participation of local associations and organizations has been planned to be held in near future to give clear information to the people about the proposed highway expansion plan in the city. He was speaking at the meeting of the town panchayat conducted at Mulky to discuss highway expansion plan.
About the apprehension that the bus stand, and parking provisions for cars, tempos, rickshaws, etc in the town will disappear because of the modified plan, he said everyone concerned will be taken into confidence, and the special meeting will also be attended MP and MLA to guide the people and assist them to address their problems.
It may be recalled that the traders and dwellers of the town had favoured construction of bypass instead of widening the existing highway, as they had feared that their buildings would be demolished. On the other hand, many others including devotees of Bappanadu temple had protested against bypass plan, as it would have cut short the path of the chariot during the car festival.
As per the new plan, the highway will be in the form of a 20-feet deep under pass from in front of ‘Ksheerasagara’ building at the entry point from Mangalore direction, which will reach level ground in front of R R Towers. The highway will have two roads with a width of 8.75 metres, with a 1.2 metre divider in between. The highway will have a metre-wide drain on which cement slabs would be built. This path will be available as footpath, it is gathered.
An over bridge will come up for connecting Kinnigoli road. As per the new plan, bus stand will have to be shifted elsewhere, it is said.
