Udupi, Mar 2: "We have demonstrated the strength of our party while submitting our nomination papers on that day. What has Congress has done for minority community? Everyone knows it garnered votes by igniting emotions," said Boje Gowda, JD(S), candidate for by election of Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing media persons on Friday March 2, he said that the sea erosion problem in the coastal district still prevails as no sea wall has been built. Gowda assured the coastal residents that he would make an honest effort to find a permanent solution to this and urged the voters to cast their franchises for the JD(S).

JD(S) district president Deviprasad Shetty said that an enrolment drive is underway to gather support from activists of other parties. "Former chief minister and state JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy has initiated several pro-people programmes during his term of 20 months. The by-elections are significant in state politics and the voters cannot be deceived unlike before," he added.

The state JD(S) youth president Mahendra Kumar said that the coastal residents love Kumaraswamy and JD(S) candidate Boje Gowda is fully committed to undertake pro-people programmes. The voters in Karkala are not in favour of BJP candidate Sunil Kumar as he has done no pro-people programmes during his term as former MLA.

District JD(S) youth president Vasudev and executive president Ghulam Ahmed were present at the press meet.
