Marathi compulsory across all school boards in Maharashtra, warns Bhuse

Mumbai, Mar 14: Dada Bhuse on Friday asserted that all school boards operating in Maharashtra must conduct Marathi examinations and appoint teachers to teach the language as a subject.

The minister reiterated that Marathi is compulsory for all educational boards, including CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge Assessment International Education and International General Certificate of Secondary Education, warning that action will be taken against institutions that fail to comply with the rule.

The issue was raised in the Assembly by Atul Bhatkhalkar, who along with several other members alleged that many prominent educational institutions running international and non-SSC board curricula were not teaching Marathi despite the rule making the state’s local language mandatory.

Responding to the concerns, Bhuse urged legislators to provide specific instances of such violations so that an inquiry could be conducted and appropriate action taken against the institutions concerned.

As members demanded stricter enforcement of the rule, the minister reiterated that under the latest regulations, teaching the state’s local language is mandatory for all educational boards functioning in Maharashtra.
