Panaji tourist counter shut for two years, GOACAN slams tourism dept

Panaji, Mar 22: The GOACAN on Friday expressed concern and disappointment over the alleged negligence of the state tourism department in keeping its Tourist Information Counter at the KTC Bus Stand in Panaji closed, citing “renovation” as the reason.

In a press note issued under its initiative “Spot the Deficiency, Identify the Official, Pursue the Remedy,” GOACAN said the counter, located at Shop No. 5, has remained shut for nearly two years, causing inconvenience to tourists.

The organisation recalled that it had earlier submitted a letter dated March 5, 2024, to the then Deputy Director of Tourism, highlighting that the closure of the counter was depriving visitors of essential assistance and information at the busy transit point.

Despite repeated concerns, GOACAN noted that the issue continues to remain unresolved, affecting the overall tourist experience in the state.

The association has now urged the current Director of Tourism Kedar Naik to take cognisance of the matter and ensure that the information counter is reopened at the earliest.

It further stressed that the department must provide a “consumer-friendly welcome” to tourists visiting the KTC Bus Stand in Panaji ahead of the 2026–27 tourism season.
