Mangalore: Women's Check-Up Camp to be Held at AJ Hospital & Research Centre

Mangalore, Mar 6: On account of International Women’s Day observed on March 8, a 'Well women check-up' camp will be held from Thursday March 8 to March 14 at A J Hospital & Research Centre from 9 am to 12 pm.

Health check-up package will be made available at Rs 1,450 against the actual cost of Rs 3,000. The package includes blood investigations for TSH, FSH, LH, ultrasound (condition of ovaries and Prolactin, Testosterone, Random Blood uterus), sugar, mammogram, evaluation of the results by endocrinologist.

Women with irregular menstrual cycles, hair growth over the face and body, infertility, back ache and obesity can undergo the above check-up. All women above the age of 40 are recommended to undergo the check-up.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Hirsutism affects 10-15% of young ladies of reproductive age. Its usual symptoms are irregular periods, weight gain, hairgrowth over the body and face and infertility. Obesity is mainly responsible for this problem. By lifestyle
modification and various medication, this problem can be corrected.

Infertility affects approximately 5-10% of married couples. Endocrine causes of infertility like thyroid disorders, PCOS, pituitary disorders and prolactinoma can be effectively treated by medicines. Hypogonadism is a condition in which there are insufficient sex hormones in the body. In women, decreased development of breast, menstrual problems and infertility are seen.

Osteoporosis causes significant morbidity and mortality in the elderly population and is usually due to deficiency of sex steroids. Vertebral and femoral fractures lead to significant disability.

Menopausal hot flushes are very common and disturbing. Sometimes they are intolerable. If it is really disturbing the quality of life, hormonal replacement will produce miraculous results.

Hypothyroidism is much more common in women than men. It usually presents with weight gain, constipation, irregular cycles, menorrhagia / infertility. If hypothyroidism is properly treated, the quality of life will improve a lot.
