Mormugao, Mar 27: Amid rising tensions in West Asia and concerns over fuel supply, Mormugao Port has emerged as a key lifeline for Goa, ensuring uninterrupted availability of petrol and diesel across the state.
Berth No. 8 at the port has been witnessing steady activity, with tanker vessels regularly docking to replenish fuel stocks sourced from refineries across India. On March 26, tanker vessel M.V. Sanmar Sitar arrived carrying 18,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 8,000 metric tonnes of petrol from Paradip, marking the third such shipment this month.

Earlier, vessels Jag Pankhi and Sanmar Songbird had also docked during the month, maintaining a consistent inflow of fuel supplies. Officials said Goa typically receives around three tanker shipments every month, and the schedule has remained unaffected despite the ongoing geopolitical situation.
Authorities at the fuel depot assured that the state currently has buffer stock sufficient for at least 15 days. “There is adequate stock, and supplies are arriving as planned. There is no need for panic,” a senior official said, urging the public to ignore rumours circulating on social media.
The importance of Mormugao Port has increased as global shipping routes adjust due to disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz. Crude oil continues to be transported through the route to Indian refineries, which then dispatch refined fuel to coastal hubs like Goa.
Officials said coordinated efforts between shipping companies, refineries, and port authorities have ensured that Goa remains insulated from any immediate fuel crisis.
