Goa earmarks Rs 5 crore to host global concerts, eyes boost to tourism economy

Panaji, Mar 29: In a strategic push to strengthen its position as a global cultural destination, Goa has allocated Rs 5 crore in its 2026–27 budget to host international music concerts, signalling a shift towards experience-driven tourism.

The announcement reflects a broader policy approach where live entertainment is being viewed not merely as an attraction, but as a catalyst for economic growth, tourism expansion and global branding.

By investing in international performances, the state aims to tap into the growing concert economy, where large-scale events serve as key travel drivers. Such initiatives are expected to attract high-value tourists, extend their stay, and generate revenue across sectors including hospitality, transport, and food services.

For Goa, long known for its beaches and nightlife, the move marks an evolution towards curated, year-round cultural programming. Hosting global concerts could help the state move beyond seasonal tourism and establish a steady calendar of events appealing to both domestic and international audiences.

The initiative also places Goa firmly within India’s emerging live entertainment ecosystem, which is increasingly gaining recognition as a high-impact sector. With dedicated funding now in place, the industry is expected to see greater structural support and scalability.

Officials believe the policy will not only enhance Goa’s global visibility but also encourage infrastructure development and private sector participation. It is also likely to create new opportunities for event organisers, agencies, and local artists.

In essence, Goa is repositioning itself from a passive tourist destination to an active experience curator—designing compelling reasons for visitors to return, beyond its natural attractions.
