Mangaluru, Mar 29:
Mangaluru City police have intensified their investigation into the brutal murder of fish merchant and rowdy-sheeter Arif Hussain, who was killed on the Thokkottu flyover on National Highway 66. Police Commissioner Sudhir Reddy has constituted special teams, including CCB personnel, to track down the perpetrators.

The victim’s son filed a complaint at the Ullal police station, naming a gang led by Mohammed Rifat Ali, an associate of Naufal, as the primary suspects behind the killing.

During the investigation, police recovered an Innova car used by the assailants, which was found abandoned at Budoli in Vittal. It is suspected that after abandoning the vehicle, the killers travelled by rickshaw and later boarded a bus to Bengaluru. Consequently, the special teams have expanded their search operations to Bengaluru and other regions.

Sources indicate that while the police have significant leads regarding the suspects, the search is being hampered as the mobile phones of the accused remain switched off.

The police are also considering booking individuals who provided financial assistance or logistical support to the killers for their escape. Additionally, the investigation has been extended toward Keralam and Mumbai to cover all possible escape routes.

A case has been registered at the Ullal police station, and further investigations are under way.
