Mumbai, Mar 31: Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik has revealed that she is still suffering from a rare hearing disorder, months after she first disclosed her diagnosis that forced her to step away from professional commitments.
In a recent interview, the singer said that despite continued requests from music composers, she is currently unable to take up new assignments due to sensorineural hearing loss. She had earlier shared that the condition developed suddenly after a viral infection, leaving her unable to hear following a flight journey in 2024.

Alka Yagnik, one of India’s most celebrated voices, has delivered iconic songs such as Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Ae Mere Humsafar, and Chaand Chupa Baadal Mein. Her last recorded song was for Amar Singh Chamkila (2024), composed by A.R. Rahman. Earlier this year, she was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan.
The singer had earlier cautioned about the risks of prolonged exposure to loud music and headphones while speaking about her condition, and has since been focusing on recovery.
