Mangaluru: Lokayukta conducts multi-city raids on drug official, Rs 3.37 crore assets unearthed

Mangaluru, Apr 7: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta police have unearthed assets worth Rs 3.37 crore allegedly disproportionate to known sources of income during coordinated raids on an assistant drug controller posted in Mangaluru.

The accused, Babu B N, son of late Nanjundappa N, is serving as assistant drug controller in the office of the Regional Deputy Drug Controller under the jurisdiction of the Lokayukta police station, Mangaluru.

The action followed a source report submitted by police inspector Chandrashekhar K N, based on which a case was registered on April 6, 2026, under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Mangaluru Lokayukta police station.

Acting swiftly, six Lokayukta police teams, under the guidance of superintendent of police B P Dinesh Kumar, Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru division, carried out simultaneous raids on April 7 at multiple locations linked to the official.

The searches spanned residential houses and commercial establishments in Bagepalli town of Chikkaballapura district, flats and residences in Bengaluru city, as well as his house and office premises in Mangaluru.

During the operation, officials detected movable and immovable assets totalling Rs 3,37,04,000 attributed to Babu B N At his Bengaluru residence, cash amounting to Rs 23,64,000 was recovered along with gold and silver ornaments.

The raid teams comprised DySPs Dr Gana P Kumar and Suresh Kumar, police inspectors Manjunath, Bharati G, Shivaraj Kumar and Rajendra Nayak, along with personnel from Lokayukta units in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkaballapura districts.

Further investigation is under way.
