Chandigarh, Apr 9: Continuing its relentless crackdown on organised crime, Punjab Police on Wednesday carried out 501 raids at mapped locations linked to gangster associates across the state. The operation, part of a sustained drive under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, resulted in the arrest of 202 individuals, according to a statement by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Launched earlier this year, the campaign aims to dismantle gangster networks and curb organised crime in Punjab. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), have been conducting simultaneous raids and intelligence-based operations since the initiative began.

On the 77th day of the drive, authorities not only arrested suspects but also took action against proclaimed offenders and other individuals involved in criminal activities. The raids were carried out at multiple locations identified through prior mapping and intelligence inputs.

In tandem, the state’s anti-drug operation ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ continued with vigour. On the same day, police arrested 112 alleged drug smugglers, seizing 5.8 kg of heroin, along with intoxicant tablets, capsules, and cash believed to be proceeds from drug-related activities.

Officials emphasised that the twin drives form a part of a broader strategy to dismantle organised crime, disrupt narcotics networks, and target their financial and logistical support systems. The large-scale, coordinated operations reflect Punjab Police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
