Brahmavar, Apr 12: "Instead of providing free education to Hindu students, the RSS-run educational institution in Cherkady is demanding Rs 1.5 lac in fees for the KG section. Why can’t the BJP MLA and MP, who won elections by claiming to represent Hindus, ensure free seats for students in such institutions?" questioned Congress leader Prasadraj Kanchan.
He was speaking at the "Five Guarantee Convention" organised by the Brahmavar Block Congress in Baikady.

Kanchan stated that the Congress-led state government has fulfilled its promises and is working toward uplifting the poor. "Udupi district has the highest number of beneficiaries under the state’s five guarantee schemes. Despite not having a single Congress MLA in the district, a large number of people have benefited. The BJP, which initially criticised these schemes, is now announcing similar guarantees in other states. Since 2014, the BJP has not provided significant benefits to the poor," he alleged, urging people not to trust the party in the upcoming elections.
Former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde remarked that while the BJP often raises emotional issues during elections, the Congress focuses on providing meaningful benefits to the poor. “We have delivered what we promised. If we can provide these guarantees, why can’t the BJP?” he questioned.
MLC Ivan D’Souza highlighted that the Congress government is providing 5 kg of rice along with the cash equivalent, directly transferring Rs 2,000 to beneficiaries without intermediaries. He added that free electricity up to 200 units and free bus travel have significantly benefited the poor and middle class, with the latter even gaining recognition in the Guinness World Records.
Criticising the BJP, D’Souza questioned their commitment to women’s welfare and accused them of copying Congress’s guarantee schemes in other states. “When we implement such schemes, they claim it will lead to bankruptcy. Why would it be any different when they do it?” he asked.
The event was attended by District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Udupi Urban Development Authority president Dinakar Poojary Heroor, Brahmavar Block Congress president Raghavendra Shetty Karje, and other prominent leaders including Dr Sunita Shetty, Ramesh Thingalaya, Abbu Saheb, Prabhakar Shetty, Jayanti Poojary, Yogish Poojary, Sudesh Shetty, Jacinta Pais, and Lakshmeesh Shetty.
Kumar Suvarna, vice president of the Brahmavar Guarantee Committee, welcomed the gathering.
