Hubballi/Bengaluru, Apr 12: In two separate tragic incidents reported from Karnataka, two students died by suicide under distressing circumstances, raising concerns over academic pressure and mental health.
In Hubballi, a II PUC commerce student, Shravani Kale, a resident of Unakal, allegedly ended her life after being disappointed with her exam results. The state had announced the II PUC results on April 9, with many students celebrating their performance.

Shravani, who studied at a college in the city, had secured 466 marks out of 600 (77.67%), passing in first class. Despite this, she was reportedly upset as she had expected to score above 90%. On Friday afternoon, after serving lunch to her grandfather, she went to her room and died by suicide. The incident came to light when family members broke open the door after she failed to come out for a long time.
Sources said Shravani had expressed confidence of scoring very high marks and was deeply affected when the results did not meet her expectations. Her father works as an auto driver, and she had been living with her grandparents with aspirations of excelling in studies and securing a good job. A case has been registered at Vidyanagar police station.
In a separate incident in Bengaluru, an 18-year-old second PUC science student, Tanushree, was found dead at her residence in Manorayanapalya under Hebbal police station limits on Thursday.
According to police, Tanushree was found hanging in her room. Her mother, Asha, discovered the incident and, with the help of locals, brought her down before informing authorities. Police shifted the body to Ambedkar Medical College Hospital for post-mortem and later handed it over to the family.
However, the case has taken a turn after relatives raised suspicion over the nature of death. They claimed Tanushree was not someone who would take such a step and alleged possible foul play. They also questioned why the police were not informed before the body was taken down.
Police said no suicide note was found at the scene. Based on the relatives’ complaint, Tanushree’s mother has been questioned, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities and educators have reiterated that students should not lose hope over exam results, noting that multiple opportunities remain available to improve scores and build a successful future.
