Mangalore, Mar 9: Cruise vessel 'M V Seaboourn Legend' with 190 cruise passengers and 173 crew members called on New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on Wednesday March 8.

It was the 13th cruise vessel calling at the port in the current financial year 2011-12. The vessel which came to NMPT as its first port of call from Indonesia sailed to Goa in the evening after which it will be set to Mumbai port.

Majority of the passengers were from USA and UK. Over 134 passengers opted for ground tour arranged by Lia Travels, the local tour operators, here.

The passengers visited places like cashew processing unit at Baikampady, 1000 Pillar Jain temple, Moodbidri, Soans farm, monolithic statue of Gomateshwara, Karkala, Gokarnanatha temple, Kadri temple, St Aloysius Chapel, and many others. J M Baxi and Co was the agent of the vessel.

Another 14 passengers who disembarked at the port opted to go by air to Delhi and Agra and will board the same vessel at Mumbai. Being the first port of call, arrangements were made for immigration by the local officers duly authorized by the Bangalore Immigration Authority.

Dr P Tamilvanan stated that the cruise liner was on its third call to NMPT during the current financial year.

Four more vessels are scheduled to call during the last week of the current month. Cruise vessel ‘Brilliance of Sea’ with 3000 passengers and 1200 crew is also expected to call at the port on April 1, which will be the largest cruise vessel ever calling at the port. This giant vessel having a length of 298 meters is again expected to call at NMPT on April 12.
