Bangalore: Advocates Continue Boycott of Courts in Karnataka

Bangalore, Mar 9 (PTI):
Advocates across Karnataka today decided to continue their indefinite boycott of courts till the state government concedes their demands, including action against top police officials and media in connection with the violence at the city civil court complex.

More than 3,000 lawyers converged at the court complex responding to a call by Advocates Association of Bangalore and held meetings pressing for transfer of DGP Shankar Bidari and City Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji.

"We will continue our boycott till our demands are met by the government", President AAB K N Subba Reddy told PTI as the lawyers continued to stay away from courts since the March 2 mayhem in which advocates attacked media and police personnel leaving scores of them injured.

The advocates also wanted action against the media for 'one-sided' reporting of the incidents that have led to a confrontation between them and media and police.

The meetings passed off peacefully as 20 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police, four companies of Rapid Action Force and 1000 police personnel had been deployed in and around the complex to ensure law and order, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sunil Kumar said.

Reddy said the issue of AAB starting its own TV channel also came up for discussion.

Meanwhile, a section of police personnel observed a "black badge protest" against the alleged assault on them by the advocates.

The government today asked the Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice R G Vaidyanathan set up to probe the incidents to submit its report within three months.

The commission has been asked to inquire into sequence of events and circumstances and reasons leading to the extensive violence between media persons, advocates and police, a Chief Minister's office release said.

The Commission has also been asked to identify persons and organisations responsible for the incidents and to ascertain whether the police performed their duties diligently.

The city civil court complex turned into a battlefield when sections of lawyers went on the rampage attacking media personnel and police and setting fire to vehicles after objecting to media presence during the appearance of former minister and mining baron G Janardhana Reddy before a CBI court in an illegal mining case.

Media is representing only one side of the story. For the first time I see this happening. POlice as an afterthought started atacking the lawyers. I being an advocate came to know this from my brother advocates. Police now trying to create hysteria, otherwise they do not require such big armed battalion, for unarmed protests, from professionals. We are revisiting the dark days of emergency. Before passing comments, please get first hand information, i do not think anyone has them, because you depend on media for the same. Even today Media was not present for coverage, or telling the right story. Shame on Media, Bidari, Mirji and most of all Mr. R Ashok, who are not able to reach out to advocates as they are far removed from the actual events happened.

But due to biased reporting and TRP stunts,I feel lawyers are considered as villains here.

Let them continue their strike... Who cares... Their clients have a sigh of relief for attending them daily. They just send letters to clients saying "Nimma casina vicharane naadiddu 15ne taarikige nigadi agiruvudarinda ee patra sikkida koodale Bhetiyaguvudu..." Clients should understand on their own that they should bring money to CONTINUE their case.... Lawyers never want case solved. They just want it be continued and clients should always visit them....

    Who initiated all the may-hem?
Who started to take law into their own Hands-prompting police to take a restrained belated action?
How many police & journos got attacked by socalled victims(advocates)?
Advocates know how to manipulate law & criminal acts to their advantage just as well as our police who plant evidence rather than finding one.
I call out our Honable Lawyers & Advocates to come out of this Union & cycle of violence & voice their dissent- at criminals amongst them & cleanse the system or rot that has set in( the criminal elements are few, who have tarnished the image of 99.99% of Legal Professionals in Karnataka).
Now if these majority stay as silent or active supporters of crime- nobody can save people of this state as one more pillar becoming- Fence that attacks the Produce!

The police who are supposed to bring law and order to the citizens took the law in to their own hands by beating up the Lawyers. The pictures itself shows the merciless beating with injuries all over the body. Justice should be done to the lawyers.

This is unprecedented strike by VAKILS.We need Police, Advocates and govt departments to run smoothly.Advocates demanding too much from the govt which is not acceptable.Reason for the unrest is Advocates themselves who started attacking media men unprovoked.Police simply swung in to action to sustain law and order. In between this there may be excess force from police towards public that included Advocates.Advocates need to give a thought which gives unnecessary hardships to public and go for a amicable settlement for the best interest of the state.
