Mumbai, May 7: Apple has announced a major sustainability push in India with a Rs 100 crore investment aimed at expanding renewable energy infrastructure, supporting recycling projects and encouraging green entrepreneurship.
The technology giant said the initiatives are part of its global target to achieve carbon neutrality across its operations and supply chain by 2030.

Sarah Chandler, Vice President of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation at Apple, said the company remains committed to strengthening India’s clean energy ecosystem while promoting environmental protection and innovation.
As part of the initiative, Apple has partnered with CleanMax to support the development of more than 150 megawatts of renewable energy capacity in the country.
The company said the initial investment is expected to generate enough clean energy to power nearly 1.5 lakh households annually. Apple added that the partnership may be expanded further in the future to increase renewable energy use across its Indian supply chain.
Apple and CleanMax had previously collaborated on rooftop solar projects powering Apple offices and retail stores in India entirely through renewable sources.
In another initiative, Apple has joined hands with WWF-India to strengthen plastic waste recovery and recycling efforts.
The project builds on existing waste management programmes being carried out with Saahas Zero Waste in Goa. The company said the programme will now be expanded to other cities including Coimbatore with support from local authorities and waste workers.
Apple also announced a partnership with Acumen to support six early-stage green enterprises involved in waste management, regenerative agriculture and circular economy solutions.
Under the programme, selected startups will receive grants, mentorship, technical support and strategic guidance to help scale their businesses.
The company highlighted examples of Acumen-supported ventures including Saptkrishi, Yotuh Energy and Mowo Fleet, which are working in sustainable agriculture, electric transport and women-led mobility initiatives.
Apple recently stated in its Environmental Progress Report that it has reduced global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60 per cent since 2015 while significantly expanding its business operations worldwide.
