Mumbai, Jul 24: The much-awaited trailer of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, was not released online as scheduled on Thursday, leaving fans disappointed. Producer Namit Malhotra later announced that the trailer's release had been postponed as part of a new global launch strategy in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The trailer was recently unveiled at a launch event in India and also showcased at San Diego Comic-Con in the US. It was expected to be released online on July 24, but the makers decided to defer the launch.
Sharing the update on Instagram, Malhotra said the partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment would help take Ramayana to audiences across the world.
"My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is coming true through our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Consequently, we will now launch our trailer globally at a later date. It will be a proud moment in the 100-plus years of Indian cinema when Ramayana is showcased to the entire world, much like a major global Hollywood film," he wrote.
He added that the collaboration would introduce Indian culture and storytelling to a global audience and thanked fans for their continued support.
The announcement has also sparked speculation among fans that the trailer could be released alongside Sony Pictures' upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is slated for release on July 31. Since Sony is distributing the Tom Holland and Zendaya starrer, many believe the Ramayana trailer could be attached to its theatrical screenings.
However, neither Sony Pictures Entertainment nor the makers of Ramayana have confirmed the speculation, and no new release date for the trailer has been announced.
The postponement disappointed many fans, who had been eagerly waiting for the trailer's scheduled online premiere. Several took to social media to express their frustration, urging the makers to release it without further delay.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana will be released in two parts, with the first instalment slated to hit theatres during Diwali this year.
