CIDCO clears illegal structures to accelerate Kalamboli Junction traffic relief project

Navi Mumbai, May 7: In a major step toward easing chronic traffic congestion at Kalamboli Junction, authorities carried out a demolition drive against unauthorised structures obstructing the ongoing junction improvement project.

The operation, led by the unauthorised constructions department of CIDCO, targeted six illegal concrete structures built along a service corridor in Kamothe, opposite MGM Hospital. Officials said the encroachments had become a major hurdle in the execution of the Kalamboli Junction Improvement Project being implemented by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation.

With heavy security deployment in place, all six structures were completely demolished on Tuesday. Authorities believe the clearance will significantly speed up the infrastructure project and eventually help reduce traffic bottlenecks at one of Navi Mumbai’s busiest intersections.

During the inspection, officials also discovered an additional concrete structure under active construction. Immediate action was taken to halt the work and prevent further encroachment on the land, according to CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer Suresh Mengde.

The demolition drive was conducted under the guidance of CIDCO Chief Vigilance Officer and Chief Controller Vishal Dhage and led by Kamothe Node Controller Shrikant Pawaskar. Officers and staff from the Controller of Unauthorised Constructions department, local police personnel, the CIDCO police team, CIDCO security guards, and Maharashtra Security Force personnel participated in the operation.

CIDCO stated that the demolished structures had been erected without official approval and violated the corporation’s land-use regulations and policies. Officials added that similar eviction drives against illegal constructions on CIDCO-owned land will continue in the coming days.
