Mangalore, Mar 12: Four youngsters, including two girls were injured in an accident that occured near Maryhill here on Monday March 12 at around 5.30 pm.

The condition of the girls is said to be serious. The boys, however, escaped with minor injuries.

The four, all college students, were going in their car (KA 19 MB 5589) from KPT to Bondel when the car rammed into the divider and also an electric pole. Eyewitnesses said that the boy at the wheel was speeding.

In fact, the car was travelling at such a speed that after hitting the divider, it veered off to the other side of the road, and its left side was completely smashed in the process.

Kavoor police rushed to the spot, and in record time, under ten minutes, cleared off the car from the accident spot. This was a rare case when police acted so fast, and sources told Daijiworld that the quick action was a result of one of the youngsters being connected to an influential politician in the city.

Police later said that the car belongs to Coastal Development Authority chairman Nagaraj Shetty's son, who had given the car to his friend for a drive.

Kavoor police registered the case.

On Monday, i was taking a leisurely walk near lady hill and saw this RITZ car speeding at a high speed.
I thought to myself that this person has suicidal tendencies.
Then I saw a big sound and noticed several persons rushing to the accident spot.
There are 3 main causes for an accident:
    1) An inexperienced and careless driver.
    2) The driver is drunk while driving.
    3) Someone distracting the driver.
Whatever is the reason, I wish speedy recovery to the girls.
    Walter

Francis, so u hve confirmed the car belongs to NS n his son was not in the car whn the accident took place. So NS son gve the car to his friend to go for a drive with girl friends at 100 plus KMPH speed on the airport road.
Trust u know the names of all 4 occupants in the car- girls with serious injury boys with light bruises.Has an FIR been filed & what charges.Has the car been confiscated. Did the driver possess a licence. Was the car comprehensively insured.RTI must be filed so public will know the truth not an eyewash whn it concerns a public figure.

Let me start off my saying rash and negligent driving is just not acceptable. But lets not get too carried away with the hype of politician involved in the article. The car does belong to Mr Shetty, but like it says in the article his son's friend took the car out for a ride. I have been to their place, and i can recognize his son, who is clearly seen in the 6th picture of the article. It is practically for him to be standing without a scratch if he was in the car! Lets use some common sense and not jump to conclusion.

But the traffic rules must be improved and followed to the dot, speed surely thrills but it kills!

I too had this car overtaking me on the wrong side at a very high speed and I mentioned to my cousin sitting by my side that this car heading for an accident. Dark tinted glasses, number plate not in accordance with regulations ( that too car belonging to CDA boss or his son- so much for politicians following rules),so much for RTO/ Police checking, so much for the absolute lethargy of the authorities to enforce rules & regulations.
They go for petty bouquets instead.

By the way, near Bondel Church the concrete road goes from a two lane to a one lane without any markings or cautions where the old existing bungalow walls are left.Cannot these obstructions be demolished & leave the concreting till a solution is found as to why this patch has been left out.
Likewise the T crossing on the Airport Road/ Vamanjoor road has been partially left unconcreted resulting in many two wheelers skidding.
Likewise where the median has not been finished why are patches left without paver bricks- another cause of skidding by two wheelers. And I think Mangalore has more two wheelers than four wheelers- they are dead ducks in an accident.

I strongly believe that the ex-minister's son was in the car and now the police might twist the case the way they want to exclude his name. Anything is possible in our independent India especially when politicians are involved. Only money and muscle power will work. After sometime even the public will forget as to the punishment meted out to the driver (whoever it is) because public memory is short. I only wish some PIL is filed or questions are asked under RTI in this regard.

If Dinesh Shetty's observations are to be believed, the youngsters were having a double whammy enjoyment with road rage and titillation!! No doubt any human driver would turn euphoric and lose control of the steering wheel and gas pedal!!!! Hope and pray they recover fast from this tragedy.

These youngsters think that they are king of the roads while driving. They drive at a reckless speed more that the trucks and buses. As we do not the full details of the occupants of the cars. It only states they were college students. Luckily there were immediate fatalities but only two girls were seriously injured. With the pictures clicked by Daya and the impact of the damaged car it seems the car was at at least 100 kmh.

Easy money and a care-a-damn attitude towards the authorities coz of their parent's influential status gives these spoilt brats a high when they try to impress upon their girlfriends by trying to show off their high speed driving abilities on substandard roads and this is the end result we get to see!!

Influential politician has to be from ruling party for Karnataka Police to react within minutes.
What were the girls doing to boy for him to loose control of the steering wheel?

Most accidents, especially involving youngsters, are due mainly to negligent driving and speeding. Youngsters should realise the futility of speeding it does not show one's driving skill, rather the lack of it.

Only the case has been registered, that’s all, because he belongs to the elite circle (politicians)? What a shame!!! When the police are going to arrest the culprit? Authorities should not only arrest the culprit but also see that his driving license (if he had one) has been canceled for duration of certain years and make him to pay the penalty.

This is nothing new. Influential people have money power but senseless driving skills. Will the cops stop this car? No. Why? Because its Ministers Sons. So where is the common tax payer in society? The car had solid black tinted glasses including front glass. Driver perpetually on the mobile while driving. Cops cant stop. Why? Ministers Sons car. Again was there an alcohol test done? No. Why? Ministers Son. Money cant do much.
