Mumbai, May 17: Singer and voice artist Chinmayi Sripaada has received widespread appreciation for lending her voice to Trisha’s character Preethi in the film Karuppu, but has revealed that she was initially “afraid” to publicly acknowledge her involvement in the project.
Taking to her official X account, Chinmayi wrote that she hesitated to share news of her dubbing work, expressing concern about possible backlash, similar to reactions she faced earlier when she worked on Leo.

She said she has known director R. J. Balaji and his wife Divya Nagarajan for a long time and did not want them to face criticism or controversy because of her association with the film.
In her post, she described Balaji as a hardworking and grounded filmmaker whose journey reflects determination and persistence. Chinmayi added that her earlier experience made her cautious about public reactions, which contributed to her initial fear.
She also shared that certain emotional scenes in Karuppu deeply affected her during the dubbing process, saying they acted as a personal trigger and reminded her of past experiences.
Despite her hesitation, she expressed gratitude to the film’s team for giving her the opportunity to work on the project and hoped that it would mark a positive turning point in her career.
Chinmayi also made reference to her ongoing professional restrictions, stating her hope to return to full-fledged work without fear or limitations.
She was previously removed from the Tamil Dubbing Union in 2018 after speaking out during the #MeToo movement about alleged sexual harassment in the industry. Despite this, she was later invited to dub for Trisha in Leo by filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj and producer Lalit Kumar, marking a rare but significant professional collaboration after the ban.
