Mangaluru: Two traffic policemen injured after car rams into them on duty

Mangaluru, May 27: Two traffic police personnel on duty were injured after a car rammed into them near Warehouse at Mannagudda in the city on Tuesday night. One of the policemen sustained serious injuries.

The injured have been identified as head constable Vittal Das and constable Kumar of the Mangaluru City Traffic West police station. Among them, Vittal Das suffered serious injuries.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11 pm on Tuesday when the police personnel had gone to the spot in connection with the inspection of another accident case. At that time, a car bearing registration number KA-19-MP-9623, allegedly driven by Dheeraj Rai in a rash and negligent manner, came from the Ballalbagh side and hit pedestrian Vittal Das, who was standing by the roadside.

Police said a few people managed to run away and escape from danger. They also said the location is not classified as an accident-prone zone, but authorities have suggested the installation of street lights and increased public awareness on traffic safety measures to help prevent such accidents in future.

A case has been registered at Traffic West police station under Crime No. 33/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the BNS, and further investigation is underway.
