Udupi, May 28: The Neurodevelopmental Clinic of the Department of Psychiatry at Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital organised ‘Pragati’ – a family programme for children with neurodevelopmental disorders on May 26 and 28 at Manipal.
Dr Prasad S S, associate dean, KMC Manipal, was the chief guest of the programme. Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, COO, teaching hospitals, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, presided over the event. Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, and Dr Arun G Maiya, dean, Manipal College of Health Professions, were the guests of honour. Dr Savitha Soman, professor and head, Department of Psychiatry, and Dr Amrtavarshini R, child and adolescent psychiatrist and in-charge of the Neurodevelopmental Clinic, were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Prasad S S highlighted the importance of early identification and multidisciplinary intervention for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. He appreciated the efforts of the department in creating awareness and extending holistic support for children and their families.



Dr Arun G Maiya emphasized the role of rehabilitation and family-centred care in improving the quality of life of children with developmental challenges. He noted that coordinated support from healthcare professionals and caregivers plays a vital role in the child’s progress.
Dr Avinash Shetty stated that awareness programmes such as ‘PRAGATI’ help parents better understand the needs of children with neurodevelopmental disorders and encourage timely intervention and acceptance within society.
In his presidential address, Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi appreciated the dedicated services provided by the Neurodevelopmental Clinic and stressed the importance of integrated healthcare approaches involving psychiatry, paediatrics, therapy services, and family participation for comprehensive child development.
As part of the programme, fun activities for parents and children with neurodevelopmental disorders were organised on May 26, encouraging interaction, bonding, and participation. On May 28, a parental awareness session on neurodevelopmental disorders was conducted. Resource persons from psychiatry, neurodevelopmental clinic, paediatrics, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech and hearing departments delivered insightful talks during the session.
Dr Amrtavarshini R welcomed the gathering and gave an overview of the programme. Dr Mahesh Mohan proposed the vote of thanks.
