Bantwal, May 28: In a late-night operation based on specific intelligence, Bantwal Town police busted an alleged illegal cattle slaughter racket at Panjaje in Sajipamooda village, arresting two accused and seizing six live cattle, slaughtered meat, a car and equipment allegedly used in the activity.

According to police, the raid was carried out on the night of May 27 after Bantwal Town police sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar Shettigar received credible information about illegal cattle slaughter being conducted in the area.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the officer, along with police personnel, raided the premises at Panjaje in Sajipamooda village. During the inspection, officers reportedly found meat being cut inside a shed located behind a house.

Police detained two persons found at the spot and identified them as Musthapa (33), a resident of Sajipamooda in Bantwal, and Mohammad Sadiq (30), a resident of B Kasaba in Bantwal.

During interrogation, police allegedly confirmed that the accused were carrying out the activity illegally without possessing the required licence or official permission.

Officials said one animal had already been slaughtered at the site, and cut meat was recovered during the raid. Police also seized six live cattle, a car suspected to have been used for transportation and other materials linked to the alleged offence.

The accused, along with the rescued cattle and seized property, were taken into custody for further legal action. Bantwal Town police have registered a case under Crime No. 68/2026 under Sections 4, 7 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.
