The event was presided over by Sahakara Ratna Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank. The chief guests were Dr Leslie Clifford D’Souza, bishop of Udupi diocese, and Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop emeritus of Udupi diocese. NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Michael D’Souza also attended as a special invitee.

In his address, chairman Anil Lobo welcomed the dignitaries and expressed special appreciation to the newly ordained Bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Leslie Clifford D’Souza, and bishop emeritus Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo.

He recalled his long association with the Church and acknowledged the role of the clergy in guiding society through spiritual leadership and service. He also commended the contribution of MCC Bank’s directors, senior management, and branch managers in advancing the institution’s growth.

Highlighting the Bank’s expansion in the Udupi region, he noted that representation on the Board had increased from one director earlier to three at present, including vice chairman Jerald Jude Silva. He further said the number of branches in the Udupi Diocese had grown from four to eight, and announced that a new branch would soon be opened at Katapady. He attributed the Bank’s progress to the blessings and support of bishops, clergy, customers, and well-wishers.

The chairman also acknowledged the continued guidance of bishop emeritus Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo in shaping MCC Bank’s vision, mission, and objectives, and appreciated Bishop Dr Leslie Clifford D’Souza for his earlier pastoral support.

He further expressed gratitude to Michael D’Souza for his sustained encouragement and philanthropic contributions to community initiatives.

A key highlight of the event was the felicitation of Dr Leslie Clifford D’Souza on his appointment as Bishop of Udupi Diocese. The citation was read by director Irene Rebello, and an eagle-shaped memento symbolising vision, leadership, and strength was presented.

Bishop emeritus Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo was also honoured for his spiritual leadership and contribution to society. The citation was read by director Elroy Kiran Crasto, and a horse-shaped memento symbolising endurance and service was presented. Priests and clergy from various deaneries and parishes of the diocese were also felicitated for their service.

In his address, Bishop Dr Leslie Clifford D’Souza thanked MCC Bank for the honour and praised its commitment to community development and social responsibility. He underlined the guiding values of ‘Service not Self’, ‘Trust not Transactions’, and ‘Person not Profit’, stating that sustainable growth was possible only when institutions adhered to such principles.

He also outlined his vision for the diocese, including the establishment of a bishop’s secretariat, promotion of vocations to the priesthood and religious life, strengthening of educational institutions, and the setting up of a hospital for the poor. He stressed the responsible use of modern technology and Artificial Intelligence for human welfare and assured continued support to MCC Bank.

Bishop emeritus Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, in his address, thanked MCC Bank for the initiative and said the institution had become deeply connected with the people, alongside “mother, mother tongue, and motherland.” He stressed the importance of a clear vision and mission for any organisation and said MCC Bank’s growth reflected its commitment to society.

He urged greater focus on welfare initiatives, particularly for the poor, noting that the current year had been dedicated to social service. He also informed that, following discussions with auditors, instructions had been given for parishes in the diocese to maintain accounts with MCC Bank, encouraging wider support for the institution.

Mr Michael D’Souza highlighted the importance of trust and strong customer relationships in banking and praised MCC Bank’s progress since 2018. He expressed confidence in further growth in deposits, advances, and overall business, and assured continued support.

During the programme, directors Andrew D’Souza (75), Joseph Anil Patrao (60), and Roshan D’Souza (50) were felicitated on their milestone birthdays.

The programme began with a prayer led by bank staff. Director Dr Gerald Pinto proposed the vote of thanks, while  Steevan Colaco compered the event.
