Mescom forms 489-member task force across four districts to tackle monsoon power disruptions

Mangaluru, Jun 4: Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) has geared up to face potential challenges related to power supply during the monsoon season.

A total of 489 personnel have been deployed in task forces across 14 divisions in the four districts under Mescom's jurisdiction to undertake emergency maintenance works. Additionally, 62 vehicles have been arranged, while a special team of 23 personnel has been constituted to handle telephone calls and complaints.

For emergency response in Dakshina Kannada district, Mescom has deployed a 12-member task force with six vehicles at Attavar, a 36-member task force with eight vehicles at Kavoor, a 48-member task force with eight vehicles at Puttur, and a 50-member task force with seven vehicles at Bantwal.

In Udupi district, a 55-member task force with five vehicles has been deployed at Udupi, a 24-member task force with four vehicles at Karkala, and a 48-member task force at Kundapur.

For Shivamogga district, Mescom has arranged a 33-member task force with one vehicle at Shivamogga, a 24-member task force with three vehicles at Shikaripura, a 20-member task force with two vehicles at Bhadravati, and a 34-member task force with six vehicles at Sagar.

In Chikkamagaluru district, a 40-member task force with four vehicles has been deployed at Chikkamagaluru, a 41-member task force with three vehicles at Koppa, and a 34-member task force with seven vehicles at Kadur.

Mescom managing director Jayakumar said work to trim trees and branches that pose risks and obstruct the power supply network has already begun and is progressing at several locations. Repair works on electric poles and lines found to be in hazardous condition are also under way.

He said pre-monsoon preparedness activities have already commenced across the four districts. All field officers under the company's jurisdiction have been instructed to effectively implement the necessary precautionary measures within their respective areas and have already begun executing them. Consumers have been urged to inform Mescom if they notice electric poles or power lines in a dangerous condition.
