Karkala: Man arrested over casteist, threatening remarks against home minister on Facebook

Karkala, June 7: Karkala Town police have arrested a man for allegedly posting casteist, derogatory and threatening comments against Karnataka home minister Priyank Kharge on Facebook.

According to police, Suresh of Chetanahalli, Attur, Nitte, Karkala, lodged a complaint after noticing a post on a Facebook account named “NAMMA KARLA”. The post reportedly carried a photograph of Karnataka home minister Priyank Kharge along with a statement concerning the RSS.

Police said a person identified as Sudhir Bangera commented on the post on June 6.

   

The complaint alleged that the comment contained derogatory remarks directed at the minister and was offensive towards his Scheduled Caste background.

The complainant further alleged that the accused had posted comments intended to create hostility, hatred and insult among different groups, thereby disturbing social harmony. The complaint also stated that the accused had made caste-based remarks against the minister and issued threats through the social media platform.

Based on the complaint, Karkala Town police registered a case.

The accused, identified as Sudhir Bangera (48), a resident of Nalkeda Bettu, Kervashe, Karkala, has been taken into custody. Police said he will be produced before the jurisdictional court.

Further investigation is under way.
