Mumbai, Jun 8: Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has described nursing as “the most sexualised profession”, saying nurses remain underpaid, overworked and undervalued despite their critical contribution to healthcare.

Ahead of the release of Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, in which she portrays nurse and 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks hero Anjali Kulthe, Kangana spoke about the challenges faced by healthcare workers and expressed hope that the film would help change public perceptions of the profession.

“There should be a change in people’s attitude towards them. I think it is the most sexualised profession. They are underpaid, they are overworked and they are most sexualised,” she said while interacting with reporters.

Kangana said nurses perform several essential responsibilities that often go unnoticed and are rarely accorded the respect they deserve despite playing a vital role in patient care and hospital operations.

She added that if the film succeeds in changing people’s perspective towards nurses, even for a short period, it would be a significant achievement.

The actor also shared her views on the dress code followed by nurses, saying she believes traces of the British-era uniform system continue to influence the profession.

“I feel that the dress code of British nurses is still in use. Our nurses, like doctors, can wear whatever they want to wear; they get a code. But our nurses, whether the weather is hot or cold, in a way, have a foreign look. This is my personal opinion. But in this film, we have worked with integrity and dignity. The shape and size don't matter, your uniform is your duty,” she said.

In the film, Kangana plays a staff nurse and one of the healthcare workers who emerged as an unsung hero during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The movie seeks to highlight the courage and resilience of hospital employees who continued performing their duties during the terror attack.

The film also features Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Amrutha Namdev, Esha Dey, Priya Berde, Asha Shelar, Suhita Thatte, Rasika Aghase, Aditya Mishra and Zahid Khan.

Presented by Pen Studios, the film is produced by Manikarnika Films and Paramhans Creations in association with Eunoia Films LLP and Floating Rocks Entertainment Pvt. Ltd..

Written and directed by Manoj Tapadia, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata is scheduled for theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
