Mumbai, Jun 9: Israel has announced plans to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the country, marking a significant cultural initiative aimed at strengthening ties between India and Israel.
The announcement was made by Yaniv Revach on the occasion of Shiv Rajyabhishek Din. He said the proposed memorial would serve as a lasting symbol of friendship between the two nations and help foster deeper people-to-people connections.
Speaking about the project, Revach said Israel recognises the immense historical significance of Shivaji Maharaj and intends to build a grand statue that will be installed in one of the country's major cities.

He described the initiative as a long-term project that would connect Indian and Israeli communities through shared appreciation of leadership, courage and cultural heritage.
To ensure the memorial accurately reflects Shivaji Maharaj's legacy, Israel has sought assistance from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding historical references, artistic guidance and design inputs. Revach said Fadnavis immediately agreed to extend support for the project.
In a letter addressed to the chief minister, the Israeli diplomat stated that the statue would stand as a powerful symbol of the close relationship between India and Israel. He also highlighted the historical connection between Maharashtra and the Indian Jewish community, many of whose descendants now live in Israel and contribute significantly to Israeli society.
Revach said the initiative is also aimed at introducing more Israelis to the life, achievements and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj. He noted that wherever he travels in India, he encounters immense respect for Israel and its national figures, and believes similar efforts should be made to increase awareness about Shivaji Maharaj among Israelis.
Welcoming the announcement, Fadnavis expressed gratitude to the Israeli Consul General and described the proposal as a historic initiative. In a message on social media, he said the Maharashtra government would provide full support for the installation of the statue.
The proposed monument is expected to become a significant cultural landmark, reflecting the growing friendship and cooperation between India and Israel while honouring one of India's most revered historical figures.
