Udupi: Manipal police detain repeat drug offender under PIT NDPS Act

Udupi, Jun 13: Manipal police have detained a 33-year-old man under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking and related offences.

The detained individual has been identified as Jagadish Poojary (33), a resident of a rented house at Rajeevnagar 2nd Cross, 80 Badagubettu village in Udupi taluk and district.

Jagadish Poojary was taken into custody on June 12 under the provisions of the PIT NDPS Act. The detention order was issued by the Inspector General of Police, Western Range, Mangaluru, based on a report submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Udupi district.

Police records indicate that the accused has been involved in multiple narcotics-related offences. A total of five cases have been registered against him, including three cases related to the transportation and sale of narcotic substances and two cases related to drug consumption.

Of the three trafficking and sale cases, one is currently under trial before a competent court, while the other two remain under investigation. In the two drug consumption cases, the accused has already been convicted.

Authorities have ordered that the detained accused be lodged in Kalaburagi Central Prison.
