Mumbai, Jun 13: Mumbai Police have arrested five men within 24 hours of registering a case involving the alleged kidnapping, illegal confinement and brutal assault of a 33-year-old man over a financial dispute in the Dongri area of south Mumbai.
According to police officials, the victim, Sachin Ranpise, was allegedly abducted, held captive and subjected to severe physical and mental abuse by the accused over an unpaid loan of Rs 2 lakh. Investigators said he was deprived of food and water for nearly two days, repeatedly assaulted and humiliated during his confinement.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the repayment of money borrowed by the victim from one of the accused. Police said Sachin had sought additional time to repay the loan due to financial difficulties, but the accused allegedly insisted on immediate repayment and subsequently plotted to forcefully recover the amount.
As per the complaint, Sachin was allegedly confined in a room at MM Residency Lodge near Baba Dargah in Dongri between June 8 and June 10. During this period, he was reportedly denied basic necessities and physically assaulted multiple times with a leather belt, resulting in injuries to various parts of his body.
Investigators further stated that the victim was allegedly stripped naked and forced to walk through the lodge corridor, an act police described as intended to publicly humiliate and intimidate him.
After enduring nearly 48 hours of confinement, Sachin reportedly managed to escape on June 11 and reached Dongri Police Station, where he lodged a complaint detailing the alleged ordeal.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Crime Detection Team launched an investigation under the supervision of senior officers. Although initial scrutiny of CCTV footage yielded limited leads, police relied on local intelligence and technical inputs to track down the suspects.
A trap was subsequently laid in the Mazgaon area, leading to the arrest of all five accused within a day of the case being registered.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdullah Shaukat Bhusari (21), Junaid Qaymuddin Khan (26), Mohammad Saad Pathan (26), Arafat Hasham Khanani (24) and Sahil Shaikh (25).
Police said several items believed to have been used during the commission of the crime were recovered from the accused during the operation.
A case has been registered under relevant sections relating to kidnapping, wrongful confinement, assault, criminal intimidation and other offences. Further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events and whether additional individuals were involved in the incident.
Officials said the swift arrests were made possible through coordinated investigative efforts and timely intelligence gathering following the victim’s complaint.
