Bengaluru, June 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Karnataka's coastal districts through June 15, warning that rain activity is expected to intensify across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, with several areas likely to experience prolonged spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
According to the IMD forecast, coastal Karnataka is likely to bear the brunt of the current wet spell, prompting authorities to advise residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and closely follow official weather updates.

Officials have also warned of strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph along the coast during this period, raising concerns over localised disruptions and weather-related hazards.
While the coastal belt remains under close watch, widespread rainfall has also been forecast across Bengaluru and parts of north and south interior Karnataka. Weather conditions remain favourable for rain in several districts, including Belagavi, Bagalkote, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri, where thunderstorms and gusty winds are also likely.
In south Karnataka, cloudy skies and intermittent showers are expected in Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu, Hassan, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts.
Bengaluru city and its surrounding areas are likely to witness cloudy conditions throughout the day, with rain expected during the evening or night. A marginal drop in temperature is also forecast.
In view of the expected thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions. People have been advised to avoid standing under trees, near electric poles or in open areas during lightning activity.
Motorists have been asked to exercise caution on rain-soaked roads and remain vigilant in waterlogged stretches. Farmers have been advised to monitor weather conditions before taking up agricultural activities and avoid working in open fields during thunderstorms. Livestock should be shifted to safe shelters.
Residents in coastal and hilly regions, where rainfall may intensify further, have been urged to prepare for possible flooding and keep essential supplies ready. Authorities have also appealed to the public to rely only on official weather bulletins and avoid misinformation.
