Mangaluru, Jun 13: The central government has granted administrative approval for the improvement of rural and urban connectivity roads in Dakshina Kannada district and sanctioned development works worth Rs 57 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), Dakshina Kannada (DK) MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has said.
Under the project, a total of 14 major works will be undertaken across the district, covering the development of 82.94 km of roads at various locations. Key state highways and district roads in the district will be upgraded through this funding. The road development works will be carried out in all taluks, including Mangaluru, Ullal, Moodbidri, Puttur and Bantwal, the MP informed.

Road development works
In Ullal taluk, road development works from Chambugudde to Machali Hotel and the road near Infosys on the Katipady-Abbakka Circle stretch will be taken up at a cost of Rs 4 crore (covering 2.66 km and 1 km respectively). Improvement of selected stretches of the Sajipanadu-Boliyar road (2.88 km) will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
The state highway from Hosangady Puchamogaru Bridge in Moodbidri to the Beltangady-Bantwal Cross will be developed at a cost of Rs 6 crore, covering 8.90 km.
The Surathkal-Kabaka state highway from Bajpe to Kaikamba and from Polali Gate to Addoor Bridge will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 6 crore, covering 10.50 km.
The Punjalakatte-Moorje-Kudkoli state highway stretch from Pangalpady to Kudkoli will be developed at a cost of Rs 6 crore, covering 10.07 km.
Development works will also be undertaken on the Uppinangady-Periyadka-Koyla section at a cost of Rs 2 crore (3 km), the Hantyaru-Bettampady road at Rs 3 crore (4.50 km), and the Kepulu-Padil road at Rs 1 crore (0.65 km).
Selected stretches of the Subrahmanya-Manjeshwar state highway covering 10.10 km will be developed at a cost of Rs 6 crore.
The Venur-Andinje-Naravi district main road will be upgraded over a stretch of 10 km at a cost of Rs 6 crore.
Road renovation and widening works
The Beltangady-Moodbidri-Mulki state highway from Excellent College to Moodbidri police station Road will be renovated at a cost of Rs 5 crore, covering 5 km.
The highway connecting NH-275 and SH-276 from Somantadka to Hedaya will be developed at a cost of Rs 5 crore over a stretch of 5.50 km.
The Ananthadi-Mangilapadavu-Kodapadavu district main road in Bantwal will be widened and developed over a distance of 3 km at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
Overall, the central government has sanctioned this major allocation to strengthen key connectivity roads in the district, ensure smoother transportation and accelerate economic activity. On behalf of the people of Dakshina Kannada, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, and union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for approving funds for this important project.
He stated that upon completion of these road improvement works, the district's economic, educational and tourism-related activities would receive a significant boost, contributing to the overall development of Dakshina Kannada.
