Puttur, July 8: Six youths were detained by police after a woman alleged that she was threatened with a knife while she was on her way to work at Purusharakatte in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday, July 8.

According to the complaint, the woman, belonging to one community, had parked her scooter at Purusharakatte, as she does every day before travelling to Mangaluru for work, when a group of youths from another community allegedly confronted her, brandished a knife and threatened her.

Fearing for her safety, the woman immediately boarded an auto and left for Puttur. However, the youths allegedly pursued the auto in a Thar vehicle with around six occupants and again threatened her during the chase.

The alleged incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, which reportedly shows the youths holding a knife and intimidating the woman.

Distressed by the incident, the woman immediately informed members of community organisations and BJP leaders. Acting on the complaint, representatives approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Following the complaint, police launched an investigation, traced the six accused youths and took them into custody for questioning.

A case has been registered at the Puttur Women's police station, and further investigation is under way.

Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the allegations raised by the complainant.
