Puttur, Jul 9: The Puttur town police have registered cases against seven web news portals and social media handles for broadcasting messages aimed at inciting communal sentiments and disrupting peace in connection with a recent incident at Purusharakatte.

According to an official press release, an incident had taken place at Purusharakatte in Puttur on Wednesday, July 8. Following this, the accused media channels allegedly failed to report the facts and instead portrayed the incident under a communal lens, creating a divide between Hindu and Muslim communities. Based on complaints filed by aggrieved individuals stating that these platforms were spreading false information to disrupt communal harmony, the police registered separate cases.
