Mangalore, Mar 21: The inaugural ceremony of art exhibition at Orchid Art Gallery, Hemavathi building, Balmatta, was held recently. The chief guest for the occasion was Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, president of Bhootanateshwara Temple, Yedapadavu.

William Pais, director of Orchid Art Gallery and artist Jeevan A S spoke on the occasion.

Explaining his art work exhibited in the exhibition, artist Jeevan A S, says, "A seed. A germinated seed, from germination to sapling, sapling to a tree, tree to a fruit, fruit to seed again, seed to germination, thus is the cyclical process of nature.. Again, seed to plant, plant to flower, and the connection of one flower with the other flower, an important recurring process called pollination. My sensitive mind caught these outwardly simple and biological processes and I took the journey of probing these hidden processes. Different stages of pollination processes render various shapes and forms, which made me to use these elements in visualization to enhance the aesthetic value of my work. The current series is all about pollination.I have used mixed media with skill full use of colours. Different colours communicate different atmospheres. A few colours denote cool atmosphere, others warm and still others are about unbearable heat. Using the colour combination, I have tried to depict the ups and down of in the material world."

Further, explaining his work, he adds, "The contemporary world has seen many technological advances than any other time of human history. The impact of technology on our thoughts and projects has changed the way we live and art is no exception. At times I feel technology is a challenge to the creative process but at the same time it can be harnessed to create a thought provoking art. I have kept both dynamics in mind while creating these paintings and drawings, based on experiments and the dynamics of aesthetics."

He further explains, "Any concept in order to be used in visual arts raises many issues. The visual language I use to express my inner thoughts denote the understanding I had of the concept. I believe, creation of art is a replica of truth and art should always speak the truth. In the process of visualizing, I encountered two processes-philosophical and the other technical. The former belongs to the mind and other
related to the physical elements in a work of art. Philosophical element consists of interest in the subject, knowledge, visual sensibilities and imagination. The physical elements include the usage of time, space and the other material mediums that finally give shape to a work of art. I believe the combination of all of the above leads to creation of objects of aesthetic beauty."

The exhibition is open till March 31, 2012.
