New Jersey, Jul 15: Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with an acid attack that injured six women in Jersey City, New Jersey, last month, public safety officials said.

The incident occurred on June 15 when the victims were travelling in a car and were allegedly targeted by individuals riding a moped, who splashed sulfuric acid on them.

All six victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including skin burns and peeling, according to Kim Wallace-Scalcione, spokesperson for the Jersey City Public Safety Department.

The accused, aged 13, 14 and 15, have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury, along with other offences. Authorities did not disclose the date of their arrests.

Officials said the attack appears to have been targeted and may have stemmed from an earlier dispute involving a large group.

Police had initially reported that five women were injured but later clarified that there were six victims, including three teenage girls.

One of the victims, a 21-year-old woman, suffered second-degree burns to her face and scalp and was admitted to a specialised burn unit for treatment.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, officials said.
