Mangaluru, Jul 15: Setting a noble example of humanity and social responsibility, the family members of late Carmine Pereira (70), a resident of Aarva in Beltangady taluk, have successfully conveyed the message of being useful to society even after death by donating her mortal remains for medical education and research.
Following her recent demise, the family members handed over the body to KS Hegde Medical Academy in Deralakatte. The driving force behind this exemplary decision was the deceased's daughter, Flavy D'Souza, a school teacher by profession.


During her tenure as the president of Catholic Sabha Mangalur Pradesh, Mangaluru South zone, Flavy D'Souza had participated in a body donation awareness camp organized by KS Hegde Charitable Hospital. Recognizing the critical need for human bodies in medical advancement, she discussed the matter with her family and convinced them of its importance. With the unanimous consent of the family, the final religious rites of Carmine Pereira were performed, after which the mortal remains were respectfully handed over to the authorities of KS Hegde Hospital.
The selfless decision made by Flavy D'Souza, her husband Felix D'Souza, and son Naveen Wilma D'Souza has drawn widespread appreciation from the public, as a human body serving medical students for study and research is considered one of the highest forms of charity.
AICU Karnataka state president Alwyn D'Souza, MCC Bank chairman Anil Lobo, Catholic Sabha Mangalur Pradesh central president Santhosh D'Souza, vice president Steven Rodrigues, Albert Sunil Monis, former presidents Lancy D'Cunha and Stany Lobo, along with various zonal and unit office-bearers, were present on the occasion to commend the family's inspirational act.
