Mangaluru, Jul 17: In a major breakthrough, the Barke police arrested three notorious inter-state burglars of Nepal origin within five days of a major theft reported near Urwa Market. Gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 10 lac have been recovered from the accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tilak Kumar Khadka alias Tilak Khadka (36) from Chainpur district, Nepal; Ashok Raj alias Ashok Singh alias Ashok Singh Thakuri (33) from Bajhang district, Nepal; and Dipender Rasaili (25) from Kailali district, Nepal.

The arrest follows a complaint regarding a house burglary at Mathadakani near Urwa Market. On July 11, the residents locked the house and went to a relative's house in Kadambu of Vittal in Bantwal taluk. When they returned on the morning of July 12, they found that the back door had been broken open. Burglars had decamped with 64 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 25,000 cash, totally worth Rs 8,57,000. A case was registered under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Barke police station.

Acting swiftly, a team of Barke police officials and personnel intercepted and arrested the trio during the early hours of Friday, July 17, at Boloor. During interrogation, the police recovered all the stolen gold ornaments related to the Barke case.

Additionally, 790 grams of silver articles stolen by the accused from Nashik in Maharashtra were also seized from their possession.

The accused confessed to their involvement in an attempted burglary within the Urwa police station limits in March 2026.

Though no valuables were stolen at the time, a case had been registered under relevant sections of the BNS.

Interrogations further revealed that the gang was involved in more than 15 burglaries across various police station limits in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Davanagere, and Udupi. They also have several cases registered against them in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana.

The police are gathering more information from these states for further investigation.

The accused will be produced before the jurisdictional court. The operation was successfully executed by the officers and staff of the Barke police station under the guidance of the city police commissioner.
