Bantwal: Town Council to Provide Group Insurance to Women Members of 62 SHGs

Bantwal, Mar 22: “Group insurance coverage will be issued to members of 62 self-help-groups (SHGs) promoted by Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna (SJSRY) in the town limits,” said town councilor B Dinesh Bhandary.
 
He was speaking at the inaugural of the Mahila Samavesh held under the joint auspices of town council, SJSRY, and Samudaya Abhivraddi Sangh at Manjunateshwar Kalyan Mantap on Tuesday March 20.

“A total of 860 women are members in SJSRY promoted SHGs, who are leading self-sufficient and dignified lives.  The group insurance coverage will be issued through SHSRY by the town council with concern  for health of women,” added Bhandary.
 
Bantwal Development Authority (DA) president A Govind Prabhu inaugurated the Mahila Samavesh on Tuesday morning.
 
Deputy councilor Janaki Gopal, steering committee president Vasanti Gangadhar, members Ramakrishna Alva, Riyaz Hussein, Ramachandra Gowda, chief officer R Jattanna, Yuvaraj Jain of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development (SKDRDP), Irene Rebello of district development cell, and Vishwanath Rao were present on the dais.
 
Madhumala, lecturer, Alva’s College, Moodbidri, was the resource person who spoke on women empowerment.
 
Prizes were distributed to the winners of sports competitions that were held on account of ‘Mahila Samavesh’.  The women members of SHGs shared empowerment tales on the occasion.
 
Samudaya Abhivruddi Sangh president Vimalakshi welcomed the gathering.  Umavati proposed the vote of thanks.  Jayalaxmi and Teja compered the programme.
