Four killed, seven injured in truck collision inside Hanogi Tunnel

Mandi, Aug 20: Four people were killed and seven others injured after two trucks collided head-on inside the Hanogi Tunnel on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred at around 7:45 am, triggering panic in the area. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving four people dead, while seven others sustained injuries.

The injured were initially rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Considering the seriousness of their condition, they were later referred to Nerchowk Medical College for further treatment.

DSP Lokendra Negi confirmed the accident. Following the incident, police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched relief and rescue operations.

The collision also disrupted traffic movement on the busy highway for some time, causing inconvenience to commuters. Authorities worked to clear the accident site and restore traffic movement.

Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the head-on collision. The identities of the deceased and injured were not immediately available.

The Hanogi Tunnel is located on the Kiratpur-Manali highway in Mandi district and forms part of an important route connecting the region with Kullu and Manali. Recent reports have also highlighted traffic disruptions and restoration work in and around the Hanogi stretch.
