Tarouba, Aug 27: West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine has etched his name in T20 cricket history by becoming only the second bowler to claim 650 wickets in the shortest format of the game.

Narine achieved the landmark during Trinbago Knight Riders' Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 clash against Saint Lucia Kings at the Brian Lara Stadium on Thursday, reaching the milestone in his 611th T20 appearance.

The spinner needed just one wicket to enter the 650-wicket club and delivered with figures of 1/27 from his four overs. His milestone wicket came off the final ball of the 12th over when he trapped West Indies batter John Campbell lbw.

Before Narine, Afghanistan's Rashid Khan was the only bowler to reach 650 T20 wickets. Rashid currently has 736 wickets from 547 matches, remaining at the top of the all-time list.

Narine is followed on the list by former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo with 631 wickets and South African spinner Imran Tahir with 582 wickets.

The achievement further underlines Narine's remarkable consistency in T20 cricket. He is already the leading wicket-taker in CPL history, with 137 wickets to his name, two more than Tahir's 135.

Narine has represented the West Indies and featured in several of the world's leading T20 leagues, including the Indian Premier League. He made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and has since taken 207 wickets in 202 matches for the franchise.

He holds the distinction of being the only overseas player in IPL history to cross the 200-wicket mark and also has the most wickets for a single team in the competition.

Apart from his bowling, Narine has also developed into a valuable batter in T20 cricket. He has scored 4,881 runs in 390 innings, adding another dimension to his status as one of the most accomplished players in the format.
