Sikkim shooters shine at North East Zone Shooting Championship

Guwahati, Aug 31: Shooters from Sikkim delivered an impressive performance at the 13th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2026, which concluded in Guwahati, Assam, on Sunday.

Laxuman Adhikari created history by winning a bronze medal in the Master Men's 10m Air Pistol Individual category. It was the first-ever medal won by a shooter representing Sikkim at the North East zonal level.

Sikkim shooters Anu Chettri and Tshering Yangden Bhutia also secured qualification for the 69th National Shooting Championship 2026 following strong performances at the zonal championship.

Chettri qualified in the 10m air pistol event, while Bhutia earned qualification in the 10m air rifle category.

A total of 11 shooters represented Sikkim at the championship. The Sikkim Rifle Association contingent comprised eight pistol shooters and three rifle shooters.

The performances mark a significant achievement for shooting in Sikkim, particularly Adhikari's historic medal at the North East zonal level and the qualification of two shooters for the national championship.
