Mumbai, Sep 27: Two men died inside a public toilet in Goregaon East in the early hours of Sunday, with police suspecting suffocation as the possible cause.

The deceased were identified as Bhavin Desai, 18, and Prabhakar Dhivar, 25. Vanrai Police have registered cases of accidental death and are investigating whether fumes from a plating workshop located next to the public toilet were linked to the deaths.

The incident took place around 2.30 am at Shivshankar Nagar, near Ram Mandir railway station.

According to police, Desai and Dhivar were members of a Ganpati mandal. On Saturday night, they had gone out for dinner along with six other members of the mandal. The group stayed out late, chatting after dinner.

Around 2.30 am, Desai and Dhivar went to the public toilet. When they did not return for a long time, the other members became concerned and went to check on them.

They found both men lying unconscious inside the toilet and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The incident was subsequently reported to Vanrai Police.

A senior police official said investigators were examining whether gas fumes released from the neighbouring plating workshop could have caused the two men to suffocate.

Police are conducting further inquiries to establish the exact cause of the deaths.
