St Aloysius Engineering along with Sophia University Japan conducts International Robotics Workshop

Mangaluru, Oct 7: A three-day International Robotics Workshop, aimed at providing engineering students with hands-on exposure to robotics, product development and intelligent systems, was inaugurated at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) on Monday, October 5. Organised by the School of Engineering in association with Sophia University, Japan, the workshop titled 'From Hardware to Intelligent Systems' brought together students from engineering institutions across Karnataka and Kerala.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Tad Gonsalves, professor at Sophia University, Japan. Dr S Ruban, dean, School of Engineering, presided over the inaugural programme. Welcoming the gathering, Dr Glenson Toney, assistant dean- School of Engineering, said the workshop was not merely about learning the technical aspects of robotics, but also about global exchange, understanding different cultures, working together, collaboration and networking.

Prof Tad Gonsalves said the workshop would provide students an opportunity to learn, collaborate and develop solutions that can make a difference. In his presidential address, Dr S Ruban, dean- School of Engineering highlighted three Cs: Change, Collaboration and being the Chosen Ones, encouraging students to embrace change, collaborate and take responsibility for creating meaningful solutions. The workshop provided students with hands-on experience in product development, programming and hardware integration. In the post-lunch session, teams modified their products and presented their product development cycle through pitch presentations. The top two teams were awarded prizes.

The first day led by Prof Gonsalves and his team of five from Sophia University saw the participation of around 70 students from various engineering institutions, including AJ Institute of Engineering and Technology, Adichunchanagiri Institute of Technology, Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Canara Engineering College, KMCT College of Engineering and Management, Kasargod, Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering, Moodbidri, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, and Sri Devi Institute of Technology, Mangaluru.

The second and third days of the workshop will involve students from the School of Engineering at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) along with students from neighboring institutions in Mangaluru. The workshop being coordinated by Dr S Ruban & Dr Glenson Toney is conducted as part of the academic collaboration between the School of Engineering, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), and Sophia University, Japan. The initiative seeks to provide students with international exposure while strengthening academic, technological and institutional collaboration between the two universities.
