Bantwal, Apr 2: Senior Congress leader, businessman and social worker C Ganesh Pai passed away on Sunday April 1 after a brief illness. He was 73.

A resident of Vamadapadavu in Chennaittodi near here, Ganesh Pai joined Congress at a very young age. He built and led the party successfully in Vamadapadavu.

He served in social, cooperative and educational sectors, and worked for the betterment of his area by building anganawadis, educational institutions, hostels, organizations for women, dispensary for beedi workers and hospitals. He also worked for providing basic amenities like drinking water and roads.

Pai was known as 'Sculptor of modern Vamadapadavu' by several state and national level leaders. He was involved in various organizations including Sharadotsav Samithi, Bantwal Ganeshotsav Samithi, Mudur Padur Kambala Samithi. He provided financial support to many poor students.

Ganesh Pai leaves behind his wife and three children.

Janardhan Poojary, Ramanath Rai, Harish Bantwal, Tungappa Bangera, Padmashekar Jain, Mailappa Salian visited his residence to pay their respects.
