New Delhi, Oct 23: Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor has said face-offs with Chinese troops are continuing at multiple locations along the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh.
Addressing personnel during an investiture ceremony ahead of the force’s 65th Raising Day on October 22, Kapoor praised the newly formed Shaurya commando teams for their performance during confrontations with Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops.

“Recently, a situation developed in Arunachal Pradesh where face-offs took place at several locations, and some of these situations are still ongoing. Our Shaurya Commando teams deployed there have performed exceptionally well,” the ITBP chief said.
Kapoor said the ITBP had raised one commando team in every battalion, with two additional teams now being constituted. The aim is to establish a full commando company within each battalion, alongside a separate battalion dedicated exclusively to commando operations.
The force’s Operations Wing is working on the proposal, and the framework is expected to be finalised within a day or two, he said, adding that the elite units would become a distinctive identity for the ITBP.
Meanwhile, the Indian and Chinese armies held their first Corps Commander-level meeting in September to discuss the latest border-related issues. Sources said the Indian Army had taken a firm position on the stance adopted by Chinese troops in the area where the latest face-offs occurred.
India and China have differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which have periodically led to face-offs and other tensions along the border. Corps Commander-level meetings have traditionally been held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point in the Ladakh sector to address such issues.
Military-level discussions gained importance following the 2020 Galwan clashes, in which soldiers from both countries were killed. Since then, military and diplomatic channels have remained central to efforts to manage tensions along the LAC.
The latest engagement assumes significance as both sides seek to address issues specific to the Arunachal Pradesh frontier. It follows National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s visit to China in August, after which India and China announced several measures aimed at maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC.
