Panaji, OCt 27: The bodies of a 63-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son belonging to the Arondekar family were recovered from the Tiracol river at Satarda in Maharashtra on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Shrutika Arondekar and her son Suhas Arondekar. They had reportedly entered the river on Saturday night.

After the mother and son went missing, villagers launched a search and found their slippers and a battery near the riverbank, around 300 metres from their residence.

Following an alert from the villagers, police launched a search operation with the help of boats. However, the bodies could not be traced during the initial search. Locals eventually found the bodies on Sunday evening.

According to residents, the mother and son lived alone and had no other family members. Their bodies were subsequently shifted to the Sawantwadi sub-district hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Sawantwadi police registered a case of accidental death and initiated an investigation. Police from Sawantwadi and Pernem are jointly probing the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Preliminary leads suggest that the son was addicted to online gaming. However, the exact circumstances leading to the deaths are yet to be established.
