Dublin, Oct 29: Ireland leg-spinner Ben White has announced his retirement from representative cricket at the age of 28, bringing an end to an international career in which he represented his country across all three formats.

White made his international debut against South Africa in Belfast in 2021. His final appearance for Ireland came against Bangladesh in December 2025.

He played three Test matches, all in 2023, and earned 43 international caps, including 38 appearances in T20 Internationals. White was also part of Ireland’s squads for three T20 World Cups in 2021, 2024 and 2026. He finished his international career with 41 wickets.

In a statement announcing his retirement, White thanked Cricket Ireland for giving him the opportunity to fulfil his childhood dream of representing his country at the highest level.

“I’d like to thank Cricket Ireland for giving me the opportunity to fulfil a childhood dream of representing my country and playing cricket at the highest level. Representing Ireland at three ICC T20 World Cups and playing Test cricket definitely wasn’t on the bingo card, but it’s something I’ll always be incredibly proud of, and I’ll be forever grateful for the experiences and memories I’ve made along the way,” he said.

Ireland head coach Gary Wilson congratulated White on his career, while acknowledging that his retirement brought mixed feelings.

“On these occasions, it’s always with mixed feelings that I respond to a retirement such as Ben’s. On one hand, I wish him well and congratulate him on a career into which he dedicated so much time and effort. But on the other hand, I know first-hand how much he put into pursuing his dream of playing for Ireland and am pleased that he achieved over 40 caps for his country. He will be missed around the group,” Wilson said.

Wilson added that White would be particularly remembered for his T20 performances, highlighting his ability to generate bounce and bowl at great pace. He said White’s inclusion in three T20 World Cup squads reflected the regard in which he was held and that the spinner should be proud of his achievements.
