Mangaluru, Nov 2: The Indian Coast Guard has once again demonstrated its commitment to its motto of saving lives at sea by rescuing a fisherman who fell overboard while fishing in the sea off Mangaluru at midnight.

On Sunday November 1, an emergency call was received via VHF from fishing boat IFB Shiva Sagar, which was operating approximately 54 nautical miles (100 km) from Mangaluru. A fisherman had fallen into the sea while the fishing net was being hauled. The crew of the boat subsequently retrieved him from the water, but he required urgent medical assistance.

Immediately after receiving the distress call, the Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters-3 (CGDHQ-3) responded promptly and deployed ICGS C-448 for the rescue operation. Despite the darkness of the night, the fishing boat was successfully located.

The distressed fisherman was safely evacuated, provided with immediate first aid and transported to the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) jetty. He was subsequently admitted to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
