Mangaluru, Nov 3: One of Mangaluru's key connecting roads, stretching from Kottara Chowki through Urwa Store to Ladyhill, is set for a major facelift, with the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) planning to transform the entire stretch into a modern smart road at an estimated cost of Rs 4–5 crore.
The road had earlier been fully concreted during the tenure of former MUDA chairman Tejomaya. Now, MUDA is planning another major development initiative to enhance the stretch's appearance and improve facilities for pedestrians.

Under the proposed project, MUDA will utilise its own funds to develop the road as a smart corridor. The plan includes well-developed footpaths along both sides of the road, running from one end to the other, besides beautification works, tree plantations and seating arrangements for pedestrians to relax.
Speaking about the initiative, MUDA chairman Santhosh Shetty said a detailed project costing approximately Rs 4–5 crore had been planned to transform the stretch into a smart road.
The proposed makeover is expected to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal while making the road more pedestrian-friendly, convenient and safe. The addition of continuous footpaths, greenery and seating facilities is also expected to improve the overall experience for those using the stretch.
Once completed, the Kottara Chowki–Urwa Store–Ladyhill road is expected to emerge as one of Mangaluru's model smart roads, combining improved urban infrastructure with pedestrian-friendly amenities and adding to the city's growing focus on urban beautification.
